Role of Artistic Copper-T Shiksha Model to sensitize women for the use of Copper–T as a safe contraceptive

Abstract

Introduction: This study has been conducted in semi-urban ares of Muktsar District, Punjab. A big section of woman comes with unwanted pregnancies are educated for contraceptive methods like oral pills, copper- T & tubectomy. Copper-T can be very effective method for spacing and substitute for missed oral medicines. But these women had misconceptions regarding safety by using copper-T. Copper-T Shiksha Model is innovative way of contraceptive counseling by artistic presentation to female and her family even in presence of children. It is based on the Arts Integration Approach and Neuro-linguistic programming. Copper-T is promoted as ornament of uterus instead of a sharp and penetrating object and displayed beautifully with a framed painting with significant meaning of contraception by famous artist Rahul Bhandare. Objectives: 1. To Study impact of Cu-T education model for reproductive women and to create awareness about Cu-T among selected women by using this model. 2. Comparison study of effectiveness of this model from 2020 to 2022 for 3 subsequent years. Materials and Methods: For purpose of study Primary data was collected from 400 reproductive females. A sample of 250 reproductive females was chosen randomly in 2020 and pre-test interview schedule was used to fulfil the objectives of study. For the data collection 13 ANMs with their Asha workers helped for conducting survey. In 2021, 100 reproductive females were chosen . In 2022, 4 group meets and few individual counselling were conducted where 50 women participated. Results: Women had poor acknowledgement of copper-T in 2020. It was only 4% in 2020 that increased to 26% in 2021 that further increased to 32% in 2022. After motivation with copper-t shiksha model in 2020, 24% reproductive women adopted copper-T, which was 22% in 2021 and further increased to adoption rate upto 32% in 2022. But copper-t has made a good place in women after our awareness camps in 3 years.

Biography

Seema goyal has done her MBBS from Mysore Medical college & research institute & MPH from CIMS institute, Dehradun. She Worked as Medical officer from 2012 to 2016 with Ranbaxy sanjeevani swasthya sewa cancer project, doda, Punjab. She worked as Medical officer at urban PHC, Muktsar, Punjab from 2016 to 2020. She joined as District Epidemiologist, IDSP, civil surgeon office, Muktsar, Punjab 2020 to 2022. At present, she is working as medical officer, Incharge Muktisar guest house welfare association, Sri Muktsar Sahib.
