Assessment of dietary fiber intake in adults: Consideration of gender and age disparities
Abstract
Many studies have focused on the health effects of dietary fiber. Despite the advice of numerous experts to increase fiber consumption, many population groups have failed to meet the recommended daily average intake, which may lead to various chronic diseases. This study aimed to gain insight into the dietary fiber intake of adults in the Indian population. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on 800 adults using a validated food frequency questionnaire to assess dietary fiber intake. A total of 800 participants (621femalesand179 14 males) were surveyed. Of the 800 participants, 11% 22 experienced constipation,62% used digestive biscuits, and 85%didnotuse, and 23% used fibre supplements to relieve constipation. The findings showed age and gender differences in adult fiber consumption, highlighting the critical role that dietary fiber plays in maintaining good health and well-being. Further research is needed to understand the barriers to fiber intake and develop effective strategies to improve dietary habits.
