Effectiveness of lactation and management training on the knowledge and skills in lactation procedures among healthcare staff in a private hospital in Davao City
Abstract
This study assessed the effectiveness of lactation and management training on healthcare providers' knowledge and skills related to lactation procedures at a selected private institution in Davao City. It employed a quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test research design. Fifty participants were selected through simple random sampling. The study utilized a self-developed questionnaire based on the Department of Health Manual. The questionnaire was validated for content, and reliability was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha and KR-20. Results showed that most respondents were female, aged 20 to 24, held a Bachelor’s degree, and primarily worked as nurses. Participants demonstrated a high level of knowledge before the intervention, which significantly improved after the training. Their skills also showed notable enhancement post-training. The only significant difference in the demographic profile was related to educational attainment. The findings indicate that the intervention effectively enhanced respondents' knowledge and skills. However, additional data, particularly on knowledge retention, are recommended for more conclusive results. It is advisable to extend the training and conduct a follow-up assessment after one year to evaluate long-term retention.
